Moving to Germany is an investment. Before you earn your first Euro from one of the many jobs in Germany, you will spend a significant amount of money.
Many trainees underestimate this and run into trouble in Month 1. Let’s break down the real cost of relocation so you can budget effectively.
1. The Visa Phase (~€200 – €500)
- Visa Fee: €75 (National Visa).
- Translations/Certifications: €100 – €200 (School diplomas).
- Courier Fees: €20 – €50.
- Fast-Track Fee (Optional): €411 (Paid by employer or you).
2. The “Blocked Account” (~€1,600 – €11,000)
As discussed in Article 1, if your salary is low, you might need to deposit money here.
- Buffer Amount: Even if you don’t need a full account, have at least €1,500 saved for the first month’s liquidity.
3. The Move (~€600 – €1,200)
- Flight: €400 – €900 (One way).
- Travel Insurance: €50 – €100 (Required for the visa until work starts).
4. The “First Month” in Germany (~€2,000+)
This is the shocker. You arrive, and you have to pay everything before your first paycheck (which usually comes at the end of the month).
- Rent Deposit (Kaution): This is huge. Usually 3x “Cold Rent”. If your room is €400, your deposit is €1,200. You must pay this immediately.
- First Month Rent: €400 – €600.
- Furniture/Basics: €200 (Bedding, kitchen stuff).
- Food/Transport: €300.
The Grand Total
A realistic “safety net” budget to launch your Ausbildung life is €3,000 – €4,000 (excluding the Blocked Account deposit).
Tip: Some employers offer a “relocation bonus” or loan to help with the deposit. Ask your recruitment agency get-talent.eu in Europe if this can be negotiated in your contract!
